What we build

Posts
4x4 or 6x6 wood posts set in concrete, or steel and aluminum posts. PostSaver or Rotguard sleeves at grade as an add-on.
Wood
Pressure-treated or cedar. Cedar in square-edged boards or tongue and groove.
Layouts
Vertical board, board-on-board, good neighbour, spaced and horizontal.
Heights
3 to 7 ft. Ottawa allows up to 7 ft in back and side yards.City of Ottawa Fence By-law 2003-462, checked October 2026.
Tops and gates
Top caps, framed lattice, slat bands and face rails. Single gates to 5 ft, double gates to 10 ft, with a beam, arch or pergola over.
Repairs
Leaning and broken posts replaced. Panels replaced, or taken down and hung again on the new posts.

Common questions

How tall can my fence be?
Up to 7 ft in back and side yards, and about 3 ft in a front yard. Corner lots step down near the corner.
Do I need a permit, and who finds the property line?
Ottawa does not issue permits for fences. You show us the property line, from a survey or the corner pins, and we build on your side of it.
What happens after I send my design?
We email you, walk the line on site, and send a priced quote. The visit and the quote are free.
What does a fence cost?
Every job is quoted on its own. The visit and the quote are free.
How long does a fence take to build?
It depends on the size. A couple of post repairs take a day. A full fence line takes one to two weeks.
Pressure-treated or cedar?
Pressure-treated costs less and takes stain after a season. Cedar costs more and resists rot without treatment. Left bare, cedar weathers to grey; a stain keeps its colour.
Do you take the old fence away?
Yes. We take down the old fence and haul it away.
Do you repair fences you did not build?
Yes. Leaning and broken posts replaced, panels hung again, gates rebuilt.
What is the payment structure?
It depends on the size of the job. Typically a 50% deposit and 50% on completion.
